Dominik Paschke

I am a software engineer currently based in Dunedin, New Zealand, working in the web development space. I like building fast and secure websites using modern technology. I started out with WordPress and WooCommerce, using the Beans theme to allow for small page sizes, while relying on minimal (or no) plugins.

I enjoy working with modern Javascript libraries, like Vue and React. Development is a joy with these tools! My current work at TheMarket is backend focussed, using NodeJS, MariaDB, Elasticsearch, Redis, as well as Kafka. I have previously enjoyed working with PHP and the Laravel framework.

Originally a scientist by training, I did my PhD on the cold tolerance of alpine insects, specifically of the New Zealand alpine wētā.

I have good knowlegde of a variety of computer science topics, including AI and general programming practices (algorithms & data structures) in a range of languages. I have dabbled in Android development, using Kotlin, and used Docker as a less resource hungry alternative to Vagrant.

Besides turning my eyes square in front of the computer, I love tramping, watching movies (anything set in space or involving time travel is a bonus), thinking about going for runs and petting .
